  • Global Health Internship: Global Brigades members have the opportunity to apply for a summer Internship with Global Brigades in Honduras, Panama, and Ghana. Interns will choose from a health or development focused internship to participate in, while also working with Program Leads to develop out their own ideas for individual projects. During the internship, students will participate in a combination of traditional brigading, help conduct research and evaluation projects, take part in education initiatives, participate in cultural exchange and community involvement, and will gain a greater understanding of our holistic model.
  • Global Health Online Certificate: This course is designed to introduce students to these diverse factors contributing to the increasing rates of preventable disease and poor healthcare services. The course will be focused on global health measurements, conditions that are plaguing our developing countries, health interventions, and overall standard of care.  The contents presented will prepare students to work with diverse populations, provide international service, and understand the nuances of global medical work and health as it affects individuals and population at large.

Progress your Medical Spanish language skills this summer with an immersive experience in Panama or online:

  • Medical Spanish Immersion Certificate (9 Day Program): Your time in Panama will be an interactive learning opportunity in Spanish language proficiency with a concentration on medical scenarios. This program will combine Spanish instruction and medical clinic days in rural Panamanian communities, taught by a certified Spanish Instructor and a group of Panamanian medical professionals.
  • Medical Spanish Online Certificate: After the 8-week Certificate Program, students will: become conversational in medical Spanish, be more equipped to help during Brigades, and acquire tangible language skills for a future health career. Deadline to register for Spring 2013 Program is February 28th.

  • Economic Development Online certificate: The economic development program, “Practical Solutions for Serving the Poor” will prepare students to approach the problems of global poverty from a thoughtful perspective geared towards creating holistic programs that empower individuals and communities to lift themselves out of poverty utilizing market principles and innovative technologies.

Student testimonials:

For the first several weeks after I got home from the internship, I was unable to talk about anything else. I told anyone and everyone who would listen everything I had done, learned, and experienced. Spending a whole month in Honduras working with Global Brigades and getting a glimpse of its long-term successes inspired me and brought me alive. And from conversations with my fellow interns, I know they felt the same transformation and the same desire to share their experience when they returned home.

Michelle Menclewicz

Michelle Menclewicz Michelle graduated from UCLA in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in International Economics and Spanish. She discovered Global Brigades in the summer of 2007, when the organization was launching the Business Brigades program in Honduras. As a huge proponent of the social enterprise model and with an interest in working with businesses in underresourced communities, Michelle immediately signed up for the first Business Brigade and then joined two more in the same year. After having learned more about the program and best practices for setting up successful chapters on campus, Michelle along with a few fellow UCLA brigaders developed a platform for engaging and supporting all student leaders planning brigades. During this time, Michelle was also working with Navigant Consluting in the Disputes and Litigation department. Eventually, her Global Brigades volunteer work became a full-time job and she officially became a member of the team as Director of Student Affairs in January 2010. A year later, she moved to Panama to support the team on restructuring the programs to focus in one central region in East Panama and Darien. She is currently in India, working remotely with Global Brigades on Student Leadership projects. Being a part of the Global Brigades family has been a incredible experience and she looks forward to more years to come.
