    I have read Tracy Kidder’s Mountains Beyond Mountains. My required freshmen seminar course 3 years ago had us read it and now i’m reading it again in my final semester for a separate class. It’s a fantastic book and shows just how much knowledge of humanities and social science is very connected with medicine.

    Another good one is When the Spirit Catches You, You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. It discusses how cultural beliefs can conflict with the American medical system and the implications of misunderstanding on both sides in the USA. It shows an example of the need for cultural sensitivity and understanding even here in the US for doctors and students.
